SAN FRANCISCO, CA (September 10, 2010) – 12 Gallagher Lane is announcing a Visiting Artist program where we will showcase emerging and mid-career artists to create and facilitate a constructive and compelling dynamic alongside the artwork of the iconic American artist Hunt Slonem.
We are pleased to announce our first visiting artist Jonah Ward. Jonah is an emerging Bay Area artist and a graduate of the California College of Arts and Crafts in 2006. As well, he was named by 7×7 Magazine as “an artist to watch” in 2009.
Gallery Director Derek Cabaniss reflects, “What drew me to Jonah was initially and most importantly his artwork — so simple in its abstract designs that waver between depth and surface, so intriguingly complex in their fabrication of dripped molten glass upon wood, so different than Hunt’s in process and practice, yet communicative of the same passion, dedication, and skill. But, what has kept me captivated is Jonah’s story — how his background, education, insight, and personality has shaped and continues to shape his work.”
“I still find new affinity between his work and Hunt’s each day — how Hunt patiently chooses his antique frames before painting and how Jonah selects the color, size, and grain of the panels before working. In some ways, this process of establishing the Visiting Artist Program and selecting Jonah as our inaugural artist has been the same way. It just felt right from the beginning.”
12 Gallagher Lane will present a public exhibition and artist introduction on September 16, 2010 and will be followed by a private reception on September 18, 2010 by invitation only. To RSVP for the public exhibition, please contact info@12gallagherlane.com.
