SAN FRANCISCO, CA (December 18, 2010) – 12 Gallagher Lane is announcing its exclusive representation of Artist Joey DeRuy and his addition to the gallery’s Visiting Artist Program.
Artist Joey DeRuy has adapted to his surroundings and absorbed a wide array of influences due to his childhood spent in Hong Kong, Kenya, Montana and Maine. Born in the late 70’s Joey was influenced by the modern art and portraiture he observed as a young child. Stemming from his youth spent in East Africa, Joey’s earlier mediums began with encaustic powder mixed with beeswax, representing one of the oldest painting media.
His more recent works in pen and ink have been utilized to create tattoo art, ad illustrations, international magazine recognitions, and candle illustrations and he has since expanded into oils, acrylics and mixed media to create the technology-influenced characters that grace his paintings.
“Joey has experienced a lifetime in his colorful upbringing and viewers can truly see this diversity of influence in his work,” says Gallery Director Derek Cabaniss. “His artwork pulls you in for a closer look at what he’s communicating and feeling. It’s part quirky, completely unique — a true reflection of Joey’s world and presence.”
